With an endless number of hits, accolades and successes over the past two decades, Devin Abrams is undoubtedly one of New Zealand’s most versatile and accomplished musicians and producers. Abrams' dexterity and ability as a collaborator and producer has grown exponentially over time, making him one of the most sought-after musical accomplices in Aotearoa and abroad.

Born in San Francisco, Abrams grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand, before then developing his musical skills at the Christchurch Jazz School and subsequently forming the iconic New Zealand group Shapeshifter with school friends in 1999.

One of the biggest New Zealand acts of the 21st century, Shapeshifter have numerous platinum albums and singles, multiple #1s, a throng of music awards, sold out shows and festivals both home and abroad, and released music through world famous UK electronic label, Hospital Records. Spending over 15 years in the group, Abrams’ would take a lead role as a producer, songwriter and performer - producing and writing nearly all of the group’s work. 

Alongside his work with Shapeshifter, Abrams has released a number of critically acclaimed albums under his solo project alias, Pacific Heights. His first full-length as Pacific Heights in 2003 was Frozen Fears, a deep and beguiling slice of atmospheric electronic music. Five years later he would then change things up on In a Quiet Storm in 2008, which integrated hip hop, soul and funk into his repertoire. Following a long hiatus, Pacific Heights returned with the deeply cathartic The Stillness in 2016, which would go on to win 'Best Electronic Album' at the New Zealand Music Awards and be a finalist for the Taite Prize and APRA Silver Scroll. His fourth album A Lost Light, in 2018, was a critically acclaimed conceptual work based on a vivid ocean based dream. It was intriguing and captivating work, one which highlighted Abrams' ability to create sonically rich worlds, which envelop listeners into their folds. in 2022, Abrams charted new waters with his fifth studio album as Pacific Heights, The Waters Between, which transcends the notion of expectation, being his most warm and inviting record yet.

Constantly evolving and ever driven towards honing his craft, in 2015, Abrams departed Shapeshifter to focus on producing and writing for other artists. The first act he would work with was New Zealand’s Drax Project. From their 2015 EP, to their 2019 award-winning smash hit ‘Woke Up Late’, Abrams has been an integral part of the group’s success. Abrams produced and co-wrote ‘Woke Up Late’, which reached #29 on the Billboard Hot 100, #23 on US top 40 radio, as well as top ten, triple platinum success in Australia and New Zealand. Abrams would also produce Drax Project’s next biggest hit, the double platinum ‘Catching Feelings’ feat. Six60, along with four other tracks on their 2019 debut album. 

In 2019, Abrams signed a worldwide publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group out of Australia. Abrams also spent time in Los Angeles and Sydney, working with a variety of international artists, writers and producers. Most recently he has produced the upcoming solo EP from Fat Freddy’s Drop’s Dallas Tamaira and the new album from beloved Aotearoa icon Stan Walker.

Abrams' co-wrote and produced their Top 40 multi-platinum hit 'Woke Up Late', which charted in both Australia and America, and later featured US actor and musician Hailee Steinfeld. He also produced and co-wrote their next Top 40 multi-platinum hit, 'Catching Feelings' featuring Six60, as well as a number of other tracks from the group's best-selling debut album and EP.
